GCMS abbreviations: AFU
AFU stands for anti-fraud unit.
Anti-fraud units work with applications where misrepresentation is suspected. For example, an officer may forward an application to the anti-fraud unit if he or she thinks that some documents are not genuine, requesting AFU to verify applicant’s employment, family relationship etc. AFU then takes measures to establish if documents and/or information are genuine or self-serving. Usually results of AFU verification are present in GCMS notes; however, in some cases they are omitted under the Access to Information Act.
